KNIGHT HOODIE
When my fellow 2013 Sewing Rabbit Team member Elisa, from the Charming Doodle, shared she was working on The Knight Hoodie Pattern, I insisted she grade it down to size 2T --- because I had to have one for my son. The Knight Hoodie's modern design is an attention grabber. People were running up to us in the mall, asking where I got it from.
I sewed the size 2t in sweatshirt fleece and accented the "armor" in a faux woven leather and the fit is perfect. The Faux leather was very stiff so I decided against lining the pieces. I love playing with texture, so I layered the armor in a black wool felt to make the armor pop a little. My son gets a little crazy if anything is covering his face, so without it being a huge "to do" I modified the hood to eliminate the face guard. I really love the way the Knight Hoodie turned out. I know I will be sewing up a few more of these for gifts soon.
TIP: When working with faux leather that is extremely stiff, try pressing it on the fabric backed or non faux leather side. Cover it with a piece of fabric to protect if from an accidental burn. Don't be afraid to blast it with a shot of steam.
Elisa patterns are well written and easy to follow. I love that the instructions were designed for viewing on a computer screen or tablet therefore saving lots of paper and ink. Sew one up for your kid or tween, I know they will love it!
